Unable to view the Content Pack Marketplace in Log Insight

Update: This is resolved in vRLI 8.1.1.

We’ve recently been receiving a number of customer inquiries about being unable to view the Content Pack Marketplace in Log Insight. This is a very popular feature as it allows customers to install new content packs without having to leave the vRealize Log Insight UI.

The issue being reported is that customers cannot get the marketplace to load as you can see in the screenshot below.

Wasn’t vRealize Log Insight 8.1 just released? Does that have anything to do with why the Marketplace isn’t working?

The answer to this question is no; this is merely a coincidence and has nothing to do with vRealize Log Insight 8.1. In fact, this issue can be seen on Log Insight 8.0 and 4.8 (and likely earlier versions) as well. This issue is caused by changes made to a shared backend service that just so happens to host the marketplace that’s viewable within vRealize Log Insight.

Workarounds:

But have no fear as there are a few workarounds that will get you up and running once more.

1.) Connect to your vRealize Log Insight Instance or Cluster using its IP address. This can be the IP for your single node installation or the IP address of your cluster’s VIP. This will allow you to view the Content Pack Marketplace in Log Insight just as you have in the past.

2.) Download your Content Packs via the Solution Exchange and import them by clicking Import Content Pack from within the Content Pack page in Log Insight.

Our engineering teams are aware of this issue and are working with the folks who provide the shared back end service. At this point we don’t have an ETA on when this will be resolved but one of the two workarounds mentioned above will get you back in business in the meantime.
